Deli has fantastic setting but is the food up to scratch?

Golborne Road in West London is home to Golborne Fine Wine & Deli, a food and wine bar that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is the perfect place to rest your weary limbs after being lured into the market stalls that line the street.

An arm’s length away from the bustling thoroughfare of Portobello Road, fresh fruit and vegetables are for sale outside the deli’s windows with vibrant reds, greens and oranges brightening up the street.

Basic tables and chairs and an outdoor terrace are best experienced with a glass of wine, especially with the adjacent wine shop tempting you in with its bottles glinting in the window.

Chicken and Avocado Salad

A deli that describes itself as “understated, clean and tasty”, the breakfast and lunch menus are simple and it uses fresh ingredients in its dishes. After being politely asked to order inside, we went for the Chicken and Avocado Salad and a Tricolore Ciabatta.

They also have vegetarian and vegan options including a Spinach, Feta and Pine Nut Filo Pastry (vegetarian) and a Potato and Spinach Salad( vegan). There are gluten-free options as well.

Generously portioned, the salad had grated fresh parmesan sprinkled on top and a French dressing on the side, with big, juicy slices of beef tomatoes and pumpkin seeds. Personally, I would have toasted the seeds but it didn’t matter. They had a good crunch anyway. The poached chicken was moist and, unlike many chicken salads I have had, there was loads! Served in a gorgeous light blue bowl, it hit the spot.

Tricolore Ciabatta

The Tricolore Ciabatta was well-packed with avocado, tomatoes, Buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil, and I could hear the crunch of the thick slices of bread as it was bitten into. Delicious.

My silky latte was strong with no hint of bitterness and it slid down rather quickly. A great way to finish off lunch.

If you are in the area, don’t miss this one!
